Relax on national Stress Down Day

Support organisation Lifeline is promoting its national Stress Down Day initiative today (July 22), which is designed to draw attention to increased stress levels within the community.

Today people are urged to reflect on their stress levels together and use their collective awareness to reduce metal fatigue and anxiety.

Lifeline also aims to help companies address the effects of stress within their workplace.

 Many Australians struggle with stress, however a large portion of the population don't recognise the effect it has on their wellbeing.

Stress is a natural response from the body when it is under pressure, giving us extra energy, focus and strength.

In short doses stress can be helpful and productive, however prolonged stress can have incredibly damaging effects on a person's quality of life.

Stress can take a physical toll on the body by inducing headaches, pains and exhaustion.

Mental health issues can also manifest in the form of anxiety, anger or depression.

It is important for people to look out for signs of stress in the behaviour of their friends, family and co-workers.

Businesses that create a stress-free environment are highly valued by staff.

Companies can help look after their employees by investigating appropriate business health plans that cater for their mental health.
